Get your beliefs heard

Hindu milk potIn February, and again in April’s edition of guiding magazine you may have noticed Contemplate, a four page newsletter celebrating diversity within Girlguiding UK. Contemplate is designed to help you understand and work with diversity within guiding. Bi-monthly issues include practical advice and information for Leaders, in addition to key facts and profiles from girls and young women who break the traditional perception of guiding and talk directly about religion in unit meetings.

The first edition of Contemplate in February this year looked at Judaism - ‘You’re not a Jewish Guide, you’re a Guide’ says Dee Beth, Treasurer of Middlesex North West County, who makes a positive comment on religion and guiding.

In April’s Contemplate which focuses on Islam and guiding, the 3rd Wapping Guides, Rajna and Kudeja, talk about their beliefs. Monifa, 11, also from 3rd Wapping Brownies says ‘It doesn’t matter what religion you are, Brownies is about having fun’.

If you would like to talk about your beliefs in the in the next Contemplate, whether you are a Leader or in the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides or Senior Section, we would like to hear from you. The next three issues will cover Sikhism, Hinduism and Buddhism.
